Here are some examples of my previous work, spanning UX design, user research, service design and UI design
BBC iSite is one of the core CMS applications the BBC uses to power popular sites such as CBBC, CBeebies, Blogs, Programmes and Corporate. It is a central application that helps the BBC push great content to its 64 million. The previous application was built on top of an Alfresco framework but within a few years it had quickly fell behind the needs of its extensive user base.Goto case study
To visit friends and family whilst in prison within the UK visitors are able to book a prison visit online. In the 3 years since its initial launch, the Prison Visits Booking service has worked hard to release new features so that more prisons are able to deploy this service. This project was intended to review the current service proposition and to explore other methods that could better meet the needs of prisoners, visitors and prison staff.Goto case study
Just Eat are the market leading online takeaway service not only in the UK but in many of the international markets they are present in. Historically, the company has been lead by extremely talented software engineers. This meant that some key design decisions had been made using their own personal bias on how the product should behave and how it should serve its rapidly growing customer base.Goto case study
The previous Congestion Charge design was almost 8 years old. In that time, end user technology has evolved as well as user behaviours. My role at TfL was to be the UX design consultant for the redesigned site, implementing a User-Centered Design approach to the project.Goto case study
The previous Canon website was many years out of date and needed to be responsively redesigned. This was an opportunity to review how the existing online presence was performing and to better align to the evolving needs of Canon’s customer base. Focusing our efforts to prioritise certain segmentations, the redesigned site was intended to better serve professional photographers and IT managers who look to their online presence for inspiration and detailed product information.Goto case study
BBC iStats is the core analytics software powering data driven decision making for the most senior management levels of the corporation. Built using data fed through from ComScore’s Dax product, iStats works as a high level aggregator of data that tells an up-to-the-minute story of web performance. Designed by an external design agency, my role as UX architect was to understand the user goals and major pain points of the existing softwareGoto case study
Growing up in a restaurant, I spent a lot of my childhood in our industrial kitchen. Whilst our new home is being renovated, we have been forced to rent a property. Luckily the kitchen in this temporary home is huge, much like the industrial kitchens I am so used to.
It has been quite sometime since my last blog post. This has been largely due to some real life changing events in my personal life if I am being honest. Firstly, I went self employed in February of this year (2015). This had been on my mind for a long, long time (4 years to be exact) but only took the plunge this year when things felt right.
Been some time since I last blogged. In fact this is the first time this year. It’s been a real busy time for me working with Transport for London. A lot has happened.
So it was with great honour to be invited to talk at “Digital People in Peterborough” event. My talk, “What The Hell Do Users Know - Why we should accept we are all experience designers” will talk about design as a tool for problem solving. I will be giving some examples of my work with TfL and the BBC.
